Hamburger Helper

Last night I made Hamburger Helper for dinner. (Don't worry, we also had broccoli.)

Here is an answer I would like to demand of my mom: Why did we never have Hamburger Helper for dinner when I was a child?

It is delicious. It is a close-to-perfect combination of fat, non-complex carbs, and preservatives.

I guess we were too busy eating things like salad and vegetables and casserole and other non-boxed foods.

Another thing I missed out on as a child: sugar cereal, except when we were camping.

Well, Mother? What do you have to say for yourself?

We didn't either!

Although, I had no idea that "real" Mac and cheese is baked. I always thought it came out of a box!

We ate it when I was younger. You missed nothing.

Yes, I have been tempted at times to buy hamburger helper but I never gave in to the impulse. Anything boxed is full of trans fats and who knows what else and I love you too much to set up a lifetime taste for stuff like that. It is tempting as a Mom to give in sometimes because we prefer our kids to like us. For instance I have to continually endure the displeasure of Matt and Josh these days when I buy W/W pasta and tortillas. Luckily, they like W/W bread out of the bread maker. Hope you will love your kids as much as I have tried to love you guys--in the way you need it!

At least your mom didn't feed you Tuna Helper! Hamburger Helper is yummy, but T.H. is most unpleasant. . . .

Growing up, we'd eat Hamburger Helper about 2-3 times per week. Cheeseburger Macaroni was the most popular, doused in Tabasco Sauce. But I have to say, after hundreds of boxes of it, while I may now be so so incredibly inclined to not eat prepackaged foods, I miss frying up ground beef and pouring powdered cheese over it after lacrosse practice. You're right. There's something special about Hamburger Helper.
